What is the An Tarbh?

The An Tarbh is the official monthly newsletter of Queen Medb Encampment, Inc. It is pronounced - American-like - Awn Tarv (sort of like carve) - and means simply... THE BULL!

There are many implications possible...you all will, I am sure, jump immediately to the obvious. Be that as it may, it should be noted that the Bull is the symbol of our group; it is also the symbol of strength and courage. Of these we must have a great deal to lasted through so much for so long.

Again, another implication is the Papal Bull. Maybe ours does not have the worldwide significance that the Papal Bull does, but to the members and friends of the Encampment, it has great meaning. It plays a significant role in our re-enactment life, in the teaching of the language and customs of the ancient Celts and as a forum for our members (and others) to have their poetry, pictures, stories, et al., published for all to enjoy.

And then, there is the 'good ole' bulletin' used since time immemorial to keep folks informed as to what is happening. Lastly, but in no way the least important, is the fact that when the Queen Medb Encampment, Inc., was created it was intended to become a vehicle for bringing to the attention of the public of such Celtic epics as The Tain Bo Cuilgny - The Battle For the Brown Bull, one of the most ancient and colorful of the Irish illuminated texts.

Our An Tarbh is in its 12th year of publication. For the last several years it is published on the web as heretofore it was available in print form only.  If you have articles you would wish to contribute, they would be most happily received.  Generally updated every couple of months, we feature one of the Celtic nations in each edition.

Call for Authors

We encourage you, yes all of you, not just associates, to send in articles of Celtic interest preferable in a format which can be converted to HTML or, in the case of music to MID. (One caveat, however, the amount published will be based on number of submissions we receive.)

If you have a forthcoming performance, book or other exciting event you would like advertised on the web, we'll do that as well. If you were to express your gratitude in the form of a small donation to the cause, it would be most welcomed.
