Meet the familyCome and sit by our fire and warm yourself while we spin a yarn or two about the 'first' Europeans - the Celts. Rath Cruachan (say it 'rath cro-gan) is a magic place - the home of the legendary warrior woman "Meadhbh" (say it Mwaiv- sort of like wave, except you add an "m") All within is designed to carry you swiftly back through the ages to the time of the grandeur of the Celts. Sure, 'twas but yesterday...a mere couple of thousand years ago. Our family is a large one with a great loving heart. There are approximately 35 or 40 of us to care for you and an equal number more of our friends who are willing to lend a hand if needed. Our family has a wide range of years from well advanced unto wee new born bairns. There is work and joy enough for all including those folk call themselves 'Friends of QME'. Additionally, we have numerous friends in the performing arts community whom we are pleased to call 'family'. We can be seen at Faires, Festivals, Parade, Schools, basically anywhere people are gathered. We have but one mission - to teach the history of a people whom time seem to have forgotten. We are frequently asked to produce events for School Assemblies, Scouting Associations and Civic events. These requests are met with much enthusiasm from the associates who enjoy performing for audiences who has specifically requested us. We also appear in television and motion pictures; our most recent appearance was in the History Channel's "The Roman War Machine" where we en-enacted every known enemy of Rome, excepting, perhaps, the Goths. The KeepOur Beanatighe rules supreme in the Keep and provides hot meals for the family. Our pastry chef, Dee, Armenia's contribution to the Celts, creates the most appetizing sweets for our enjoyment and frequently for the enjoyment of our guests. Hospitality of Queen Medb's household is legendary in the Faire circuit, but that is appropriate, after all, for the hospitality of the Celts was, and is, the stuff of legends. No guests leave our table until fully sated with refreshment for the body and soul. Our beautiful and gracious attendants in the Pavilion are talented singers and storytellers. In addition to caring for our guests they also care for Queen Medb in her personal quarters. Throughout the Encampment area, which is large being 100 feet in frontage and 30 to 40 feet in depth, the sounds of music, chatter and laughter abound. Ancient tales are recited with such passion it is as though the events had just occurred, for it is through this aliveness that we create the magic of being our own living ancestors. Children are fascinated by the idea that they, too, are travelers in time as we invite them to journey with us. Guests of the events we attend are our guests also. It is our great and good pleasure to care for them. The GardenQME is richly endowed with an abundance of children and each year we see the number increase. It is so appropriate that a Celtic Dun should have many children living within its protection and each adult treats them as they would their very own. The Garden is their 'safe' place where they must stay until they have grown. These precious gifts are kept safely under the eyes of innumerable fathers, mothers, Papas and Mammas, godmothers, godfathers, uncles, aunties and myriad other relatives. They love 'their' Garden and feel secure there. They have games, refreshments, shady places, a place for naps. Here they learn to share and 'get along' with each other. They, too, have work to do, but know their place is the Garden and they stay knowing they are safe and loved. You are welcome to stop by and say hello to the little ones, but no one is permitted to enter their garden. That is their place. We respect their wishes.
