Raventresses and Raven Arts

One of the many attractive aspects of Queen Medb Encampment, is our ability to produce income which permits the associates of this organization to enjoy comforts that are in general not provided by other such encampments. These amenities would not be possible were it not for the dedicated work that is done by our volunteers in our braiding pavilion and our newest addition, RAVENARTS, an area devoted exclusively for children for storytelling, painting and other activities.

The women and sometimes men who are engaged in earning money with which to operated our association are not merely 'hair braiders' and storytellers. They are artists in these field, as the elaborate braids seen about the fairgrounds can attest and the stories recounted for the delight of the children (and sometimes adults). Nikki Haymes, herself a mother of three children, is Taoiseach this area and is ably assisted by D'arcy, Kimerbly and other volunteers. The hours are long and as we can see, the pay is really bad ... unless one can count the love, admiration and esteem in which they are held by the family.

Colleen Vierra, we all know and love as Arne', sees to it that food and water is in goodly supply as it is from the labors of the these volunteers that much of the money to purchase our necessities comes. Raventresses has been in operation for about 18 years. Without the income produced by that volunteer effort, QME would not have the unusual and awe inspiring image it presents at events.

This is one of the many areas within the Encampment where new associates can lend a welcome helping hand. Children love to visit the 'beauty parlor' to get the Celtic hairdo which completes their look. Long hair is greatly favored within the Encampment and all get their hair knotted in the old way. Warrior braids are favored by some associates - including Queen Medb.
