BASIC TUNIC

For a short tunic, take a measurement from the center of the back of the neck to the back of the knee and add 2".

For a long tunic the measurement is Center Back to the ankle. You will need twice the length of the fabric used for the short tunic.

Sleeve length depends on the width of the fabric. The sketch shows 45" width fabric and instructions are based on that width. This will give you a short, fairly loose sleeved tunic with a 5/8" seam allowance.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Fold fabric into 1/4s.

  2. Measure 9" from the side and 9" down from the top fold.

  3. Mark and cut, rounding the corners slightly.

  4. Open so that your garment is only folded in half and cut your neck opening.

  5. Necks scan be square, V shaped, round, a straight slash across or have a center slit.

  6. Sew the side seams.

  7. The pieces cut from the sides can be used to face the neck opening or add length to the sleeves.

  8. Turn up the open edges and hem.
